Blade Runner Changed My Life Essay -- Personal Narrative essay about m
Cutting edge Runner Changed my Life à Sitting in the New Yorker Theater on 88th road and Broadway, having been captivated and intrigued by the long-running sneak peaks, I saw Blade Runner just because. I was simply out of eighth grade, going to proceed onward to secondary school, and attempting to clutch a center school fellowship with a young lady named Angela. We'd met to see Ridley Scott's new film with Harrison Ford. Prior in the mid year, I'd seen 70mm blasting sneak peaks in the mammoth Loews' Theaters around Manhattan. My head was as yet loaded up with dull skied pictures of a dim urban future blended in with quieted 1940's radio music. Harrison Ford was a hard-bubbled investigator in an ever-coming down city, predominated by a few hundred-story spacescrapers and shading TV bulletins, with melodic joining by the Ink Spots. à I thought the film was a serious disappointment. There were a few voiceovers and clarifications in exchange that offended the watchers' knowledge, and a couple of a minute ago, dread driven choices to help the touch and the message of the story. Outwardly, it was an artful culmination, yet I would not have been moved back to the film by its cinematography alone. à In spite of the fact that my evaluations at the time were still in their pre-highschool average quality, and I had just barely begun that year to peruse books for delight, I was starting to extravagant myself a youthful scholarly of sorts. I'd grown up accepting my family had cash and was simply keeping it from me. I had just at any point had one torn jacket to wear to class with my plastic clasp on tie and tennis shoes, yet what number of children have the favorable luck to go to non-public school in any case? I disdained not having the cash for better garments, yet didn't think I was poor. The five dollars I would never get f... .... The voice-overs and a minute ago clarifications I've come to disregard, and I watch the film with a nostalgic affection and regard. Its most grounded impact upon me was unquestionably philosophical, however I can see different impacts also. My general stylish is cutting edge, dull and unfavorable. à I've come to think about the behind the times, multi-social and erotic, post-Information Age universe of Ridley Scott and Cyberpunk as a rich play area for the creative mind. Without a doubt, this may all appear to be predictable and in reverse to my 21st-century understudies when I at last become an educator in a liberal way of thinking division some place, yet I'll keep my finger on the beat of future way of thinking and inquiries of brain and awareness, long after the sci-fi situations of my childhood have either become the recognizable foundation of another age or the pessimistic prescience of a previous century. Macbeth, By William Shakespeare - 1831 Words
Macbeth is a play written by Shakespeare where the main character Macbeth makes his way from battle and comes across three witches that call him upon his future before it actually takes place. Later in the play Macbeth notices certain changes that start to come true just like the witches told him and tries to take advantage of what he was told and chases his ambition to be the new king. He achieves his goal to be crowned the new king by tragic events that will take place in the play and with the help of Lady Macbeth. Macbeth seizes power and will do his best to fulfil his goals by doing what he can to maintain his position by the help of supernatural elements in the play. The three supernatural elements used in the play Macbeth thatâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Macbeth fears that there will be consequences for his actions but he had chose to kill the king anyways for his own benefit after taking what the witched told him in consideration. Another example of the three witches motivat ing Macbethââ¬â¢s actions is when they tell Banquo that his kids will be future kings but Banquo would not be king. For example, the third witch says, ââ¬Å"Thou shalt get kings, though thou be none: so, all hail Macbeth and Banquo!â⬠(1.3.67). Banquo had a son named Fleance and Macbeth remembers that the witches had told Banquo that his children will be kings so, to stay in power to fulfil his own ambition, Macbeth decides to send three murderers to kill Banquo and his son Fleance, doing anything he can to maintain his position as the king. Macbeth believes that so far whatever the witches have told him has started to come true and therefore what may happen in the future will also come true so, by taking matters in his own hands Macbeth kills Banquo. The last example of the witches motivating Macbethââ¬â¢s actions is when Macbeth realizes that what he has been told by the witches has impacted his future in an honorable way because he was able to snatch the crown from Du ncan and was made the Thane of Cawdor. As these actions became legitimate Macbeth become more motivated to see the witches again to find out his future. For example, Macbeth says, ââ¬Å"I hear it by the way, but I

Cyber Battle The People Versus Napster com Essay Example For Students
Cyber Battle: The People Versus Napster com Essay Napster. com is a music search engine founded by Shawn Fanning about a year ago. It is a software program that allows individuals to search for their favorite music selection by connecting to millions of other users around the world. Napster is basically the simplest way to find MP3s that you want anytime and the same time be able to share the selections with the worlds largest community of music lovers. MP3 is an audio format that allows users to compress and send music files easily over the net. This particular search engine is known to be the most popular file-sharing program among people of all ages. Currently, Napster is facing a lawsuit for copyright infringement by the music industry. The music companies want the courts to shut the server permanently. The law stated that whether online or offline, it is illegal to copy and distribute someone elses work in a way that deprives them of on income. That means anyone getting or distributing music over the Internet is considered breaking the law. There are also people who are pro-Napster who want the search engine to be shut down too. A statistic was compiled using Soundscan, an objective reporting process that measures actual retail and online prices. According to that statistics, it was revealed that sales were off 4 percent in areas near colleges and universities. Napster is very well known among college students. More than 100 universities had banned its students from downloading MP3 songs. During an interview with a record company, the question Why shouldnt music be free was asked. The response was, If recording artists didnt have to pay $50 to $200 an hour for studio costs, $1,000 or more for mastering, $5,000 to $50,000 in radio promotion, and thousands more in related costs, they could arguably give stuff away. Nevertheless, someone who spent 10 years struggling financially, invested thousands in equipment, thousands more in lessons and demos, and pursued countless hours of creative work just might want to be compensated for that effort (Stopnapster pg. 1). As one of Napsters fan, I feel that Napster. om should not be closed down. The search engine is used to download songs and saved for my personal use. I personally wouldnt want to purchase a CD if there were just one or two songs that are good. Besides, Napster gives me the chance to meet other music lovers like myself, who share the same interest. Fans, like Napster because it combines the existing elements of the online music experience into a single application that allows people to talk about what music they like and trade files. Napster software user agreement says, Copying or distributing unauthorized files may violate United States and foreign copyright laws. Compliance with the copyright law remains your responsibility (Sullivan pg. 2). Since its clearly stated in the agreement, I think that Napster should not be responsible. Despite the lawsuits, Napster. com should not be banned for copyright infringement. I think that Napsters motives and intentions are truly beneficial to upcoming ne

Levendary Café Essay Example
Levendary Cafà © Paper Levendary cafe is a US-based fast food chain. Mia Foster is a CEO of Levendary cafe, who does not have international management experience. The Levendary cafe have their own concept and approach (delighting the customers) to obtain the US market. However, with the depression of domestic market, Levendary eyes the Chinese market to expansion. After one year of its expansion into the Chinese market, the staff has become concerned that companyââ¬â¢s major problem of moving too far from the concept of Levendary store design and local menu, which is detrimental to build a positive brand image in China. There was a lack of strategic plan and inconsistency, Furthermore, different reporting and internal management structure is another problem CEO faced. Headquarter Managers including CEO and CFO want to solve the problem by changing the Chinese store design and menu, and hiring international financial analyst even though the financial report that is provided by Peter Steele(CFO) shows that Louis Chen (president of Levendary China) provided great achievements. Therefore, this proposal will give some strategies to deal with the problems of core concept, reporting and company structure that similar company will face, and will analyze these commercial problems with some theories. Recommendation and benefits There are several recommendations, which could be implemented for cross collaboration management and effective decision-making. 1. Strengthening research and cultural intelligence of the foreign markets 2. Establishing shared goals and documentation . Adjusting the organizational structure and management team Firstly, building cultural intelligence appears to be an ideal method to address the issues of different cultural backgrounds in the service-oriented business context. We will write a custom essay sample on Levendary Cafà © specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now We will write a custom essay sample on Levendary Cafà © specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer We will write a custom essay sample on Levendary Cafà © specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer It not only helps to understand how people from different countries interact with stakeholders such as government agencies, partners, rivals and customers, but also how these cultural values affect customers purchasing decisions and their satisfactions. Tian, R Wang, C 2010) For instance, launching the business in China should have an in-depth knowledge about the importance of the personal relationship, called Guanxi, protecting the reputations and bureaucratic systems (Qin, C Zhang, C 2015). This would also result in positive effects in terms of adopting the restaurant concepts, involving the brand images, marketing programs, location choices, controlling cost structure and management styles as well. Second, understanding mutual goals can play a pivotal role in service-oriented businesses in overseas market by working with partners and managing a geographically dispersed team. This could overcome the miscommunication raised by the different language, conflicts, and cultural noises. To establish a common goal with partners, there are clear documentations for key performance indicators (KPI) and reporting systems. In order to compete for lower margin restaurant businesses, quick reaction based on the performance should help to keep the market share in China. Third, establishing a new functional department in China appears to be an ideal strategy to address the issue of decision-making. Such department should involve independent marketing, food development and operating functions, which may reduce the problem of the hierarchy of parent companies. Furthermore, this new department should build the team members by the experienced headquarters workers and new local workers. For this recommendation to be effective, this department should able to create decision-making protocols and assigning responsibilities. These would also result in positive effects in terms of commercial reasons, It can be seen that in Chinese revenue per customer is relatively lower than the US market. Increasing sales volume and saving the fixed costs appears to be an ideal strategy to address this issues based on the case study. Understanding of ethnic culture and business environment can help to encourage sales revenues in quick casual segments. Furthermore, creating shared goals and documentation could possibly minimize the administration costs and prevent the sunk cost related to marketing and pre-opening expenses. Establishing independent department should promote effective strategic decision making associated with brand images, exterior and interior design, which lead to increase in market shares and reputation of its business. Analysis When first entering new markets, MNEs may face a problem that corporate culture may clash with the local culture. This clash may result from various factors such as culture differences, and different wage levels, etc. In order to minimize clash, it is significant for MNEs to conduct market research and build cultural intelligence. According to Meyer (2015), the adaptation of a companyââ¬â¢s culture often plays a key role in companyââ¬â¢s success, and how corporate culture maintains depends on their products or competitors. Moreover, if employees fully adapt to corporate core culture, it may be difficult for them to deal with domestic suppliers and partners. In Levendary cafeââ¬â¢s case, Levendary cafe US is very proud of its tasty and high-quality foods as well as its restaurant designs. However, it is challenging for Levendary cafeââ¬â¢ to accepted by Chinese customers due to culture and wage levels difference. If Chinese branch VP Chen maintains all of foods and design from Levendary in the USA, he may fail in China because Chinese customers have different tastes and consumer views from Americans. Therefore, MNEs should focus on adapting their corporate cultures to domestic cultures carefully when they are entering new markets. Cultural variables affect the Cross-Communication process and Decision making the process by influencing a personââ¬â¢s perception or attitude, organizations, and their past versus future orientation. Therefore, understanding Hofstedeââ¬â¢s and Trompenarââ¬â¢s cultural value dimensions of the host countries would help the headquarters manage across borders without culture shock In the Communication process, these cultural variables cause cultural noise, which means misinterpretation of the message from a sender to receiver or anything that undermines the communication of the intended meaning. Ethnocentric attitude is one of the sources of noise in cross culture communication (Deresky, 2017) In the Levendary cafe case study, Foster insisted hiring a financial analyst to manage China audit team and Chen refused to cooperate. In addition, when Foster raised concerns about Levendaryââ¬â¢s reputation and image, Chen felt his hard work and efforts were not being appreciated. To avoid cultural noise, Foster should develop cultural sensitivity, show empathy, and have face- face communication Besides cultural differences, the headquarters should comply with the local law and government regulations regarding taxes and accounting system of the subsidiary country, which doesnââ¬â¢t apply to the US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Therefore, to standardize the reporting structures and other financial procedures, a new division in the company with global team members should be created, specifically to oversee all the operations of the US controlled foreign subsidiaries, and henceforth streamline the communication between them, and evaluate the operation performances and strategy implementations in monthly or quarterly periods. Due to the lack of international management and expanding experience, Levendary cafe needs to recruit more local or foreign employees to build a new department for China market, because China is a potential market with its growing GDP. Furthermore, for improving the effectiveness of communication and increasing the efficiency, the headquarter could provide a separate path for Chinese managers to directly report to headquarter. Other established players like KFC, McDonalds are more standardized and successful in Asia though they havenââ¬â¢t made many changes to menus, Denyââ¬â¢s in Japan changed the entire menu catering towards local taste preferences but the levendary cafe in China changed both the menu and the look and feel of it depending on the location. Therefore, ââ¬Å"Thinking Local and Acting Globalâ⬠is a successful and mature strategy for quick service restaurant chain to develop foreign markets.
